Some things never change…

After the top two layers of siding were removed the original siding is once again exposed along with some of the original exterior trim. This shot gives us a small glimpse of what parishioners would have seen when they arrived for Mass over 100 years ago.

In comparing the oldest known photo of the church to the photos taken today, it’s become clear that some small details have been in place throughout the years. These details include the trim over what is now the side door, though this served as the back door a century ago. While the center piece has been updated and a stabilizing center bar has been added, the scrollwork appears to be the same pieces that have been there since the building was erected.

In this shot we get a little closer look at the scrollwork that adorns the awning above the side door.

These windowsills have been with the building since the beginning and though only bits and pieces of the original trim were hidden underneath the two newer layers of siding, these images give a glimpse of what this building would have looked like when Fr. Hoehn first set eyes on it.

The contractors have been busy with a bit of tuckpointing this week. While everyone was in agreement that the original stone foundation would be retained, it required some maintenance and some tuckpointing in order to keep it in good shape for future generations of parishioners.

While the renovations are updating and replacing a lot, much of the original skeleton of the structure is still holding strong and keeping the building intact while renovations are happening all around.
