We’re peeling back the layers…

As the interior and the exterior are stripped we’re beginning to see the very bones that have held our home in place for over a century. The wood is weathered and worn but it’s still as strong as ever. While these beautiful boards will be covered again soon, for now, we’re appreciating the beauty that is the foundation of our parish home.

As the existing finishes are taken down we’re catching a few glimpses of these images that show us both where we come from and where we’re going.

Small sections of the floor are being opened up to run new or updated electrical lines.

By looking closely we can see the beam of light that is shining down from the bell tower. The ceiling will eventually be closed back up completely but for now, we can occasionally catch little glimpses of what lies above.

New vents are being installed and HVAC work is happening to allow for a heated and cooled building that keeps us comfortable all year long.

The back end of the building is currently the exterior focus. While one section has been completely boarded up, the other is revealing the three layers of siding that have been housing the building for over 100 years.

From the oldest siding surrounding the window to the mid-century siding above the window to the newest siding around the vents to the plywood surface that will soon house our current siding, this view offers a unique glimpse of the generations of love and care that have wrapped our home.

Many of our parishioners and community members will well remember this gray mid-century siding that covered the church for a number of years following the addition that was completed in the 1960s.
