History
St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Mokane, Missouri is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City. St. Jude Thaddeus has officially served as the parish home for the Catholic citizens of this tiny town and the surrounding area in the heart of Missouri river and farm country since 1909, while records indicate that Catholic Mass was celebrated in Mokane occasionally as early as 1900.
While the population of Mokane has risen and fallen with the rise and decline of the railroad and the river traffic that drove the early settlement of the town, St. Jude Thaddeus has remained a staple of the community. Several of our families can trace their membership in the parish back four, five, and even six generations.
Mokane is situated in the heart of mid-Missouri along the Missouri River and on Highway 94, about 25 miles east of Jefferson City and 30 miles west of Hermann. This prime location allows us to witness the four seasons in all their glory and few things are as beautiful as the changing leaves along the bluffs in the fall, the cornstalks swaying in the fields in the summer, the trees budding throughout the spring, and the snow settling over the dormant fields in the winter. It's not hard to see why so many Catholic families have found this to be a place to call home throughout the years.
The parishioners of St. Jude Thaddeus are proud of their parish history and invite you to make the drive down Highway 94 to visit our little town, explore our historic parish home, and watch as our new parish home takes shape.
